Sri Lanka vs Pakistan 2nd ODI scorecard and highlights
Sri Lanka makes a great comeback in the 2nd ODI against Pakistan. The match was a really close one as the hosts won the match with only two wickets remaining in the hand. Sri Lanka vs Pakistan game was more important for the hosts as Pakistan won the first game and all set to win the series. But finally Sri Lanka’s relatively inexperienced batting line up clicked and they were able to chase a big total successfully. Sri Lanka’s biggest strength their bowling was however not so good in this match, so was Pakistan’s but then one day international games are not for the bowlers.
The 2nd ODI of the series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan was played in Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy. This ground is known as a paradise for batsmen and most of the games that are played here are high scoring ones. This game too was a huge scoring one with more than 550 runs scored by the two teams. Commentators at the beginning of the match said that the team who would bat first need to put up at least 300 plus on the score board, otherwise the opposition team would be able to chase the target very easily. They suggested going for batting second after winning the toss. However Pakistan captain Azhar Ai won the toss and decided to bat first. It did not seem too bad decision at that time either as the Pakistan batsmen are in top form or everyone thought that they will be able to score more than 300 plus easily. But it is never easy to score runs against the World class spinners of Sri Lanka and even though the pitch had nothing for the bowlers they still were able to keep Pakistan score under 300 and what more they were also able to took 8 Pakistan wickets. Wickets were falling at regular intervals, and that is why in the middle Pakistan run rate was very slow. Pakistan captain Azhar Ali is in great form and he was able to give his team a great start. He eventually got out for 79, but before that he played a gem of an innings. He was sending the ball to the boundary very often and none of the Sri Lankan bowlers were able to give him any kinds of trouble what so ever. The other opener Ahmed Shehzad also played well and scored 30 runs. Both the openers were able to give the Pakistan team a solid start.
Shoaib Malik is playing amazing, another player who is definitely making the selectors feel shameful for excluding him from the Pakistan 2015 World Cup squad. Today Shoaib played an innings which the cricket fans come to watch. He scored an explosive 51 in just 51 balls. It is weird that Pakistan selectors thought that he was not necessary in the World Cup team. He is still the best batsman for Pakistan team in middle orders. Both Malinga and Pathirana took two wickets each, but both of them were very expensive. Pakistan was able to score 287 for 8 wickets in 50 over.
Sri Lanka came with a positive mind set to chase the big target. Opener Kusal Perera scored a beautiful 68 of only 25 balls. This start gave the Sri Lankan a confidence and from that the middle order did the rest. Even though there were regular wicket falls, but at the end they were able to chase the Pakistan total successfully. Kusal Perera was declared man of the match in the 2nd ODI Sri Lanka vs Pakistan for his extraordinary batting. Mohammad Hafeez took two wickets. However this was another bad day for Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews with the bat.
Now the next ODI in the series will be very exciting as both the teams need to win that match.
Pakistan: 287/8 (50 over)
Sri Lanka: 288/8 (48.1 over)
